Tom Ridge, the first U.S. secretary of Homeland Security and former governor of Pennsylvania, spoke with journalist and host Charlie Rose about the status of international security, the growing importance of global engagement issues and the need for a positive transition in the wake of a new U.S. administration.
“The security and prosperity of the United States is tied, now and forever more, to the security and prosperity of the rest of the world,” said Ridge, currently president and CEO of Ridge Global. That means, said Ridge, that overseas pandemics, economic issues and security threats cannot be viewed as the isolated, non-US related events that citizens once thought they were.
Secretary Ridge praised President Barack Obama for a well-run campaign and encouraged both U.S. parties to embrace bi-partisanship in the midst of a growing global economic crisis.
