Still Bullish on America, says Ridge, at Conference on Economic Challenges

December 2, 2008

The Honorable Tom Ridge, a former congressman, governor and Cabinet secretary and now president and CEO of Ridge Global, joined Joe Roberts, founder and CEO of JER Companies, and David Rubenstein, co-founder of the Carlyle Group, to discuss how the new economic and political environment would impact the Washington, DC area. The event, held at the National Press Club, was hosted by Bisnow and co-sponsored by Deloitte, Patton-Boggs and Qorvis.

All three business and political leaders were direct and forthcoming about the economy’s impact on Washington. Ridge called for a new civil tone in Washington and time for the new administration to have a chance to succeed.

Ultimately, he said, “it’s not about asking for more…it’s about asking for better outcomes” and having alternative solutions ready if you don’t agree. There’s “a new responsibility to think differently” about the strategies business must create and embrace to get things done during tough economic times.

“I’m still bullish on America,” Ridge said, as he re-inforced the need to remain confident in the country’s ability to get through another great challenge.
