Ridge, Kean, Hamilton Discuss 9/11 Recommendations Progress with Secretary Napolitano

July 24, 2009

Ridge Global CEO Tom Ridge, the nation’s first Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, met today with Secretary Janet Napolitano as part of his membership role in the Bipartisan Policy Center’s National Security Preparedness Group (NSPG).

Secretary Napolitano and the Group, co-chaired by 9/11 commissioners Tom Kean and Lee Hamilton, discussed progress the Department has made in meeting 9/11 recommendations, issued five years ago this week. NSPG members and Secretary Napolitano held a press conference following the discussion.

“It was a highly constructive discussion,” Ridge said after the event. “Five years after the 9/11 recommendations, solid progress has been made, but there’s still more work to do. There will always be more work to do in what is an ongoing mission to secure the country. But today was an opportunity to remind ourselves that we serve our national security best when we work together in a bipartisan way.”
