Luke Ritter, head of the Global Trade Security practice at Washington, DC-based Ridge Global, discussed counter-piracy issues in a speech at the Hemaya Security Seminar, held in Doha, Qatar.
Mr. Ritter, co-author of Securing Global Transportation Networks, discussed modern piracy - a growing threat gaining the attention of ship owners, operators and shipping companies as they seek to secure floating assets and deploy new security systems.
“Modern piracy requires a collective response from the maritime community,” said Ritter. “It’s important not only to examine the reasons for this threat and identify solutions to thwart it, but also to see the value inherent in good security - for example, business continuity, resilience, productivity and protection of workers.”
Seminar attendees included the Qatar Minister of Interior as well as energy sector representatives, security equipment suppliers and global security experts.
