President Barack Obama today announced the appointment of Howard Schmidt as the U.S. government’s new cyber security coordinator. Schmidt, a Ridge Global Advisory Board member, has 40 years of seasoned computer security experience, including former executive positions at eBay and Microsoft.
“Howard is an exceptional choice,” said Tom Ridge, the first U.S. secretary of homeland security and now president and CEO of Ridge Global. “With 40 years of experience in defense, law enforcement and corporate security, Howard understands the unique and sophisticated complexities of cyber crime better than most. He’s a friend, colleague and superlative leader who will serve our nation with great distinction.”
Schmidt is president and CEO of R & H Security Consulting and president of the Information Security Forum. He also served as Special Cyberspace Security Adviser to the White House, Chief Security Strategist for the U.S. CERT National Cyber Security Division of DHS and as an FBI Computer Specialist.
